Dr.Susan Marthandan
Director, MS(Ophthal)
No women ever reached excellence in any art or profession without having passed through the slow and painful process of study and preparation. Such was the course Dr. Susan Marthandan, Charted in pursuit of excellence in all her endeavors.  
Dr.Susan Marthandan, the only daughter of Late. Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, was highly influenced by his ideals and goals, a father who was an educationist, visionary, philanthropist and the pioneer in starting private engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu and private air taxing in India. 
Dr. Susan Marthandan, completed her schooling from Sishya School, Chennai and proceeded to Dr.Ambedher Medical College, Bengaluru, for her MBBS, later she went on to be the university Topper in her Post Graduation MS (Opthalmology) from Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai. She has participated and presented papers in several State, National and International Conferences. 
Dr. Susan, is currently the Director of Hindustan College of Arts & Science, a Christian Minority Institution, Affiliated to the University of Madras, a Unit of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, Chennai, NAAC Certified and recognized by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. She has built this College into one the finest Arts & Science Colleges in India, with the coordination of the top Management Team. 
She received the Women Achiever's Award from ‘Raindrops,' a social welfare organization, in connection with the International Women's Day. As a practicing ophthalmologist, she helps her clients, patients and their families to develop their independent daily living skills in accordance with their individual care plan. Also, she provides care for people who have complex and challenging needs in terms of their behavior and emotional, psychological and developmental well-being. These qualities have resulted in the starting of the Hindustan Community College, an institution for the socio-economically weak, under privileged, marginalized, and school dropouts, in our society. The starting of this Institution is in line with her father, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese's motto: “To Make Every Man A Success, No Man A Failure.” She is presently the President of the Indo Australian Association, Chennai. 
Dr. Susan, is a confident communicator who can relate well to her patients, has a proven ability to ensure that practices in eye surgery are continuously updated to provide first degree care to patients and their families. She is a confident healthcare professional with a long track record of successfully diagnosing and treating patients' eye problems. 
Her passion for ophthalmology and good health, has resulted in the initiation of her new venture on her own, “Smart Vision & Diabetes Clinic” to meet the demands for comprehensive eye care and diabetes management, and suitable care is meted out for better health. She is a well presented, self motivated and confident dietitian, with experience of assessing a patient's nutritional needs, then developing and implementing nutritional programs for them. Also, she possesses the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information about dietary matters in an understandable form to patients, with a proven track record of successfully promoting healthy eating habits to communities, and suggest diet modifications to individuals.
What Dr. Susan Marthandan has accomplished, can well be summed up in the words of the French-born American Priest, Stephen Grellet, ‘I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.'

 

Dr. V.J. Philip
Deputy Director of Academics
Dr. V.J.Philip joined Madras Christian College (MCC) and obtained B.Sc. (1968-1971) and M.Sc. (1971-1973). He was immediately invited to join the faculty in Chemistry (1973). He holds a Doctorate in Physical Organic Chemistry (1980) from the University of Madras.Dr. V.J.Philip was the Principal of the 175-year old prestigious Madras Christian College during 2005 – 2009.
After retiring from MCC, Dr.V.J.Philip was appointed as the Principal of another prestigious institution, Hindustan College of Arts & Science (HCAS) from 2010 - 2014.  Under his leadership the College submitted its self-study report to National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) and obtained a ‘B' grade.  Currently from 2014 he is the Deputy Director Academics and oversees faculty Training Development & International Collaboration.
